Welcome to the first edition of Tech Talk, the Care Tech Avengers newsletter! We’re thrilled to launch this platform as a hub for innovation, collaboration and transformative discussions within the social care sector.

This month, we’re diving into a crucial topic: data sharing and how it can drive better outcomes for individuals receiving care, as well as for the entire sector. With the first Care Tech Avengers Live Event happening on 7th March, we’ll be showcasing the incredible work that Geraint Thomas and Blythe Senior from Guided Innovation have already done in this space. But before then, let’s explore why data sharing is so essential.

Why Does Data Sharing Matter?

The social care sector is rich with data, and insights that could improve everything from workforce planning to care delivery. However, too often, this data is siloed, underutilised, or simply inaccessible[MT1] . For a large number of people using care services, they are still hindered from the lack of information sharing due to confusion with GDPR, which can lead to providers being overprotective of someone’s data, despite some people being happy for this to be shared. This lack of information sharing can lead to people still telling their story numerous times and a delay in accessing other care provision. By sharing data responsibly and effectively, we can:

  • Enhance strategic workforce planning – Sharing recruitment data sector-wide allows providers to anticipate shortages, identify trends, and develop long-term hiring strategies.

  • Optimise resource allocation – Understanding care bed availability and regional population statistics helps ensure services are distributed efficiently.

  • Improve care outcomes – Data-driven decision-making enables more personalised and proactive care, reducing hospital admissions and improving quality of life.

  • Strengthen collaboration – When local authorities, care providers and technology partners work together, everyone benefits from a more connected and informed ecosystem.

The Power of Data in Action

As part of the Care Tech Avengers mission, Geraint and Blythe have been working on innovative ways to unlock the value of shared data. Their work demonstrates how data insights can drive positive change in staffing, operational efficiency and care quality. We’ll be discussing this in more detail at the live event on 7th March—so if you’re passionate about shaping the future of care, you won’t want to miss it!

What We Think

Mark Topps (The Caring View): “The social care sector faces ongoing challenges, but data sharing gives us an incredible opportunity to be proactive rather than reactive. Imagine if all providers utilised real-time insights into workforce shortages and local demand. We could make smarter, faster decisions that genuinely improve lives.”

Anoushka Farouk (CarePoint 365): Data is one of our most powerful tools, but only if we use it wisely. By breaking down silos and sharing key insights, we can improve efficiency, drive innovation, and most importantly, enhance care delivery for those who need it most.”
